Hi, I will be talking to you about what portrait photography is and why people use it. So first off, portrait photography is just a photograph of a person or a group of people, pretty simple. Portrait photography (also known as portraiture photography) can relate to profile pictures because portraits are of the face of a person or group of people and profile pictures are most of the time an outline of the face so they are basically almost a picture of just a view of a person or group of people. Portrait photography can also relate to silhouetting because silhouettes are just an outline of something and they are mostly of people. And that is how portrait photography can relate to profile imagery and silhouetting.
We just started a new project called double exposure portraits and we are creating them in Photoshop, and I will be telling you how to make them exactly how we completed this project. Well first we had to take one profile picture and two pictures of things that symbolize who you are, but for the practice one that we did as a class (at the top left) we had to take a profile and two different pictures of textures. After we got our pictures and opened them in Photoshop, we had to use the Dodge tool in Photoshop to make the background white for our profile picture then we had to crop and re-size our picture because for our assignment we had to have our picture at 8.5 by 11 inches and 300 pixels per inch. Once we have finished our cropping we had to blend all three of the pictures together by double clicking the layer as you see to the right of the screen and under the blend mode you have to go to the screen mode. Once you have finished that you can go to the layer selection at the top then under that you will see another selection that says new adjustment layer and that is when we got to explore. Now once you got something that you like and are happy with you are ready too turn this amazing project in.
The symbolism in the image in the left hand corner is quite simple. I really just like trees and I thought that the purple flowers would be a good contrasting color with the bright green grass which was my second picture. However there is some room of improvement, for example, there is a white line going right through the middle of my face, I don't really know how it got there but I probably could have tried a little bit harder to get rid of it. In my final double exposure image that is in the lower right hand corner, that one symbolizes me a lot. For example, There is a picture of me doing a split leap and that symbolizes gymnastics and that is one thing that I could do for a long time and not get bored of it. Also, there is a picture my hands on a piano and I love to play piano too. Just like I said in my practice double exposure there is always room for improvements. For example,I could have blended the two picture that symbolize ne a little bit better, but over all I think that I did a pretty good job. And that is all about my double exposure and multi exposure images.
