Alright to be honest with you I feel like I am a proactive person because I personally feel like I work really hard on everything I do. For example, when we worked on our visual poem plan I worked as hard and as fast as I could to complete our task. At times I would blurt out a joke or something like that just to be funny, but that is only at times where I feel like I do not want to do anything or I just can't think of anything to do. Whenever I am supposed to do an assignment I will start to procrastinate, but then realize that I have to start doing some work and I will start to be proactive. So for me to be a proactive person it will just depend on the day. I feel that my level of productivity relates to free time because if I get all of my work done I have more time to focus on other things. For example when I am doing my blog posts like this one we have two weeks to finish most of them and if I finish them right when I first get the assignment, and that is what I call proactive. When I finish things soon it gets them out of my head so that I don't have to worry about it the rest of the week, and even if I try to say to myself that I am going to do it in a little bit it will still be running through my head. Now I know for sure that it is better to be proactive then to be a procrastinator and when I do a good job I know that I am doing good. And that is why I am going to be really proactive for the future. If I could change one of my work habits it would be to listen more carefully in class. Mr. Sanderl normally would show us how to do something then send us back to our seats and show us one more time but more quickly, so when it comes to me getting every little step I am not the best at that. For example, just recently we have been working in photo shop so I have been trying really hard to listen carefully to every little step. When it is time to do the assignment by ourselves I mostly just rely on Talia but if she isn't here I am out of luck. And that is one habit I want to change, relying on people |
My visual poem is about why I have done gymnastics for so long and love it so much. My poem explains that I love the process of getting ready to go to gymnastics then taking the time to warm up then trying my very hardest to accomplish the task. I think that at the end of my poem that me smiling with my coach really explains how much I love doing this sport. The last picture also shows that person cannot love a sport that much if they hate there coach and so that it shows that I think that I could never replace my coach for anything. Also, I think that if you were to just hear my voice speaking the poem it wouldn't be the same impact as it would be with the imagery because the imagery helps to explain what I am feeling and when I feel it.
I think that the special effects affected the mood of the audience because in my visual poem I put a lot of shots that were exciting, so I think that I did a did job at getting my audience at the edge of there seat. For example, in one of shot that I had it should me on the high bar focusing for my next big move and used the, ken burns effect, to make it even more exciting. The ken burns effect is an effect that lets you pan across the image or zoom-in on an image. Another example of the ken burns effect that I used to make the audience get up on there feet was when I zoomed in on an image that showed my hands gripping the gymnastics bar as tight as I could and I thought that that was pretty cool. To conclude with my response to my visual poem I would say that i thought that I did a pretty good job. With the time that we had to make this project I know that I was not one of those procrastinators. When we had time to work on our projects I used my time wisely and did everything that I could do. I know that you can always improve on what you do, but o will talk about what I thought that I did good. I think that I did pretty good at getting that B-ROLL. I did pretty cool shots, for example, I got a shot of me flying trough the air to the high bar. And that is what I thought was good about my project.
My team Hiki No story was on water safety. We chose this topic because when we were doing our research we found something incredible interesting and shocking, it said that there is about 60 people die every year from drowning in the state of Hawaii, so we thought this would be good if we could raise awareness for water safety so numbers like that could drop. There was many people who contributed to this project. For example, we had four different interviews that is already four people who contributed. Also, everyone on our team helped a lot. And I know that if not everyone on our team helped out we couldn't have finished it as good as we did.
In my opinion, I think that the final turned out great because we had a lot of interviews and everyone on our team helped out a lot. I am really happy with the way that this project turned out. Our team got a lot of great B-ROLL at the beach and we also got a lot of under water B-ROLL. For example, a girl on our team, Eden, took the go-pro on a boat and got video of dolphins and turtles and underwater coral, and that made our project turn out great. To conclude with my critique on the project I would say that we could have spent a little more time on the B-ROLL. One of the biggest problems in our video was that in a lot of the B-ROLL. There was quite a lot of camera movement. We were able to stabilize the shots a little bit, but some shots were really "bouncy." For example, in a close up shot of the lifeguard tower it was really hard to keep the camera still because something was wrong with the tripod when we got it, but we were able to edit things out and keep it still. Aside from the camera movement, I thought that our team did a really good job at putting together a new story like that. The story that I chose is, This Dog Returns Lost Items to Airline Passenger, So Flying is Infinitely Cutter Now. Here is a short summary of what this story is about: Their is a dog named Sherlock. Sherlock is not a normal dog, he is helping to return lost items to passengers on Royal Dutch Airlines. Sherlock can do things that people cannot do like slide down luggage carousal, and find random strangers with our noses. After the airplane lands Sherlock and all of the flight attendants search the seats to find items that the passengers have forgotten. Now when you go on Royal Dutch Airlines, you know that Sherlock has everything under control. Well, my opinion on this issue is that we should train these types of dogs more so that we can have them on more airlines. If you were to go on a ten hour flight and right when you land and finally get off the airplane and you accidentally leave your ipod or phone on the airplane and you don't notice you would be pretty sad and disappointed, I know I would. On the other hand with Royal Dutch Airlines, Sherlock can find you because of your scent and quickly find you and return your belongings, so you would still be getting your luggage when Sherlock would come racing down to you to give you your belongings that you forgot. So that is why I think that we should have more dogs that are trained to be on airplanes. Then you would not have to worry so much that you will lose something. To me I think that we should care about this situation because say it is your sons very first plane ride he is all excited then right when he gets off to get the luggage he forgets his woody stuffed toy on the seat, Sherlock is fast reacting. Sherlock will run as fast as he can to go and find you and return the woody stuffed toy to the little boy. The little boy was very sad and that probably would have ruined his trip, but because of Sherlock the little boy was happy again. Because of Sherlock, you wont have to worry that your son will have his very first experience on an airplane to be horrible, or lose a bunch of money because of losing your brand new iphone 6 on the airplane. And that is why I think that we should care about this situation. Sherlock going to return an item to a passenger on Royal Dutch Airlines
My Hiki No project that I am doing with Arianna, Sophia, and Eden is on water safety and so far the most interesting thing for me would be our interviews we had five interviews so far. In all of our interviews that we did all of our interviewee's have something to do with water safety and they are still super interesting, like when we interviewed Christopher Sanderl he talked about some of his sketchy experiences in the water while he was surfing and when he was telling us about them I was at the edge of my seat just waiting for what had happened at the end of the story. And in other interviews the interviewee tells us incredible facts that I would have never thought of. For example in one interview the interviewee said that in 2011 there was fourteen drowning's on Kauai and in 2012 there was only six drowning's on Kauai, but what really surprised me was that in 2013 it went up from six to seventeen drowning's and that is what really got me into her story. But I personally thought that we all did a really good job at the interviews and so did the interviewees.
For me, I think that the biggest roadblock that our team handled is that it is really hard to get the work that is outside of school done on time. We all have such busy schedules that it is quite hard for us to be at the same location at the same time. Now you would think that when I say not all of us that I mean like only one or two of us cannot make it, but it will be perhaps only one person there for a whole interview. Then that person is put on the spot to make everything perfect by themselves and it is not easy for one person to set a whole interview up by them self, and if one thing is wrong then we will have to do the whole interview again an d let me tell you something it takes some work to plan an interview. And then it all has to be done by a certain time, and time goes by pretty fast when you are working hard. I think that the most valuable part of the film making process is the editing. For me, editing is pretty hard to learn and remember. For example, to get the blade to cut something is when you press B, and when you ant to get rid of the blade you press A. Now, when I go to edit I have to have somebody else there that knows how to edit so that if I have a question I can ask them. Aside from learning how to edit it really takes a long time. For example, in one interview that we did he kept on talking for 26 minuets so we had to cut it down to only 1 or 2 minuets and cover most of it with B-Roll. And that is what I think the most valuable part of the film making process.
This is now our fourth week of school and a lot has happened. In art we just started to do a new project, it is a mandala. Also in Gifted and Talented we started a Hiki No project. Hiki No is a television program run by students just like us.
This year my biggest challenge is to make new friends. when I came to this school I only had two friends who I personally knew from my other school so this year I will have to make a lot of new friends. My favorite moment so far is when I got to meet all of my new teachers. They are so nice! This year I will work extra hard in social studies because that is not my favorite subject and i tend to doze off in the middle of class. On the third week of school we did this thing called the Photoshop experiment. The point of this assignment is so we could learn how to use Photoshop by yourself, but the tricky thing about it was that all Mr. Sanderl told us was that we had to create something on Photoshop and post it on our blog. I had no idea what I had to do so I just asked my partner Talia for help. She pretty much knew everything for me to start, and from then on I just started to play with the different tools on Photoshop. This is what I got, not much but enough.
